Create a family history gift they'll actually keep
Templates + AI prompts + your research = gifts they'll share and treasure
Welcome back to Chronicle Makers. I’m Denyse, and I help family historians research smarter, write their stories, and use AI to do both faster. E
very post here is designed to move you forward on your family history journey. Thanks for being here! All my previous posts and newsletters are archived here.
You hand your cousin the 10-page case study proving where your grandfather was born. Perfectly formatted citations. Maps. Census records. Weeks of work.
They flip through it, say “wow, that’s amazing,” and set it down.
Or you show someone your family tree with 47 names, birth dates, death dates, and locations carefully documented. Their eyes glaze over. They nod politely. They change the subject.
Here’s what that tells us: They don’t want a pile of data. They want a story about ONE person that connects to their life right now.
What they actually want (but don’t say)
Something they can hold. Frame. Put on their desk and look at every day.
A framed photo of their great-grandmother with a 300-word story about how she survived the 1906 earthquake. A recipe card with Nana’s apple cake recipe on the front and the story of Sunday dinners on the back. A timeline poster showing their grandfather’s journey from Poland to Pennsylvania.
That’s what creates connection. Not the GEDCOM file with 1,500 people. Not the meticulously researched report that proves a birthplace. Something tangible about ONE ancestor that makes them feel something.
And when they hang it on their wall, show their friends, tell the story to their kids—that’s your moment.
“You like this great-great-grandmother? Well, there’s a whole lot more where she came from.”
That’s teaser marketing. And yes, it sounds weird to talking of “marketing” ancestors. But the reality is one personlized gift creates curiosity for the next ancestor story.
Why most family historians never do this
Because creating a beautiful, personalized gift sounds like weeks of work. Learning design software. Figuring out layouts. Writing interesting stories. Printing and framing.
Most of us think about doing it. Very few actually finish and deliver.
To make it doable for you this year I created the Family History Gifts Workshop: You get the templates and AI prompts that give you the starting point. The structure is built. The design is done. The AI helps you turn your research into an engaging story.
You customize it with your ancestor’s photo, your facts, your family’s specific context. The goal is connecting ONE ancestor directly to ONE recipient in a way that matters to them personally.
Result: 3-4 hours from idea to delivered gift. Not weeks. Not “someday when I have time.”
Five gift formats, one repeatable system
The workshop includes five template options. Each gives you the structure. You add your research and personalization:
Image + Story (most popular)
Recipe Card (family meals create powerful memories)
Timeline Poster (visual life journey)
Then & Now Comparison (same location, different eras)
Ancestor Profile Card (collectible series for kids)
Pick the format that fits your recipient. Match the ancestor to what matters in their life right now.
Then make it. Give it. Watch what happens.
