Be honest—how many genealogy files do you have scattered across your computer right now? If you had to find your great-grandfather’s birth certificate this second, how long would it take?

For years, I told myself I’d “get organized someday”—but that day never came. I kept pushing forward with research, downloading files, and convincing myself I’d remember where I put things. (Spoiler: I didn’t.)

When it came time to write my family history, I had little confidence I could find what I needed on my hard drive. So, I set a timer to see how long it would take me to organize the records of one family line.

To my surprise, it was just one focused hour.

I turned years of genealogy clutter into a simple, structured system. The best part? It’s easy for me maintain.
